The Pig
O.K. So I like barbecue-A WHOLE BUNCH. When I lived in Montgomery, AL I made sure I came home to get my Bob Gibson's in Decatur. Because as far as I know-no where else besides North Alabama sells White Sauce. Yummy that's my favorite.
So, this weekend when I went to see my nephew in Louisville, KY my in-laws (that's them in the picture with my husband) made me try their barbecue. BBQ from Mark's Feed Store (interesting name).
I thought it was good. I even enjoyed the mustard based sauce. But it still doesn't beat North Alabama's claim to fame White Sauce. I think every BBQ place should have a supply of white sauce in the back room.
I'm a kind of an expert in White Sauce. Here are a few of my favorite recipes-Whitt's Barbecue, Big Bob Gibson's-both in Decatur, and Wild Rose Cafe and Lawler's here in Huntsville. Some are sweet and some are spicy. Either way it's good on just about anything. From chicken, pork, turkey to plain chips. Yum.
So if you're wondering what's in the sauce-my personal recipe is mayonaise, white vinegar, lemon juice and pepper. Then shake it all up. But you have to keep adding until it tastes just right. There are no measurements in my recipe.
Some people even add sugar (I've never done that), or cayenne pepper. Just remember the more the better. If anyone knows of other good barbecue white sauces I haven't tried let me know. I love trying new foods.
