Internships

Our spring semester intern Jennifer is leaving NewsChannel 19 today. She has been wonderful to have around the newsroom. I hope she has learned a lot about the news world.
Internships are very important in any field, but especially important in the television world. My advice to anyone choosing a career in T.V. is to have as many internships as possible. It will teach you things you can never learn in a classroom. And actually what you want to do once you get your foot in the door. Whether it be in front of the camera or behind it. It takes several different jobs to get a newscast on the air.
I interned with NewsChannel 19 in the summer of 2000. And fell in love with reporting. But some people fall in love with other aspects of the business. All in all everyday is different in T.V. And that's why I love my job.

Nervous!

O.K. Today is the day I am most nervous during the week. Results night. I hope my voting paid off last night-how about 30 votes for my boy Taylor Hicks. Yea! I know I'm obsessed, but I have to vote for everyone else that didn't feel like voting. I have a prediction who will leave tonight, but I think she-who's name ryhmes with Mickler- might have too big of a fan base. We'll just have to wait for the results tonight. I'll post my thoughts on who leaves. I hope I'm not crying.

Vote For Taylor! Soul Patrol

Who are you voting for? I know who my votes will go out to tonight (Tuesday) Taylor Hicks. He is my A.I. Not only is he an Alabamian he has got SOUL. I love to hear Taylor sing and can't wait to hear him pull it off again tonight. Oh, yea and who can forget those jazzy moves. So here is my VOTE FOR TAYLOR, VOTE FOR TAYLOR, VOTE FOR TAYLOR.
That's a cool picture of him as well.
Who are you voting for?

Look close. The picture is kind of small.
This is Mr. President showing his students how to wear a bike helmet during severe weather. It protects one of our producers (Stephen) from the elements. Way to go on snapping that photo Stephen.

Shootings

Last week I spent a lot of time at shootings. That's the way the ball rolls sometimes. So I took a picture of part of my hand written script for my live shot in the noon show, and our photographer Dave Schmidt (that's a Huntsville police car in the background). This story ended up being a drive by shooting. Thankfully, no one died in this incident.

Time Management

O.K. this is one of our photographers Shane Hays. He is shaving with an electrical razor while we are riding down the road on the way to a story. This man is all about time management. Too bad women can't shave going down the road. Shane did say though us ladies can put our make-up on going down the road. I guess that's true.

Just Call Me Cowgirl! Moo....

Well it seems I am the cowgirl-Moo-wee! I've covered several cow stories lately. This latest is very cool.
Triplet calves. I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but there are three identical calves standing there with their momma. The farmer who owns the cows says this is very rare. He said he has seen twins, but never triplets. The calves were born the last week of March. Moo-On my friends!!

Severe Weather

This is a picture from the severe weather Friday night ( March 31st). I took it at the Green Brier exit on I-565, where Chief Photographer Greg Stone and I were placed. (his picture is from a different sunny day)
Covering weather is very exciting and sometimes scary. Hurricanes are not so scary because you pretty much know what they are going to do once on land. As for tornados-which is the Tennessee Valley's weather event that's a little different. See you really don't know about a tornado and they just pop up all the time. Hurricanes at least give you some planning time, not so with the twisters. Until later-Happy Storm Chasing....
