Pumping Iron...

No, I don't pump iron, but I am trying my best to get in shape. It's difficult. I've been extremely sore this week from my classes at the gym. I'm taking Yoga. Sounds easy, NOT!!! Yes, you get sore from all those strange positions. I don't understand all those names. I fall down a lot in class because well my balance isn't all there just yet. Last night though I scored. I finally was able to balance during a pose.
Another class I'm taking is Body Pump. It's pretty cool. You work-out with weights during the whole class. I'm going to be the Incredible Hulk...don't be surprised if I turn green..

Music Picks!

I'm starting something new today..Amber's Music Picks. We may change the title.
My c-d buy this weekend, Corinne Bailey Rae. It's an awesome c-d. The track you would most likely hear on the radio right now is 'Like A Star.' There are more tracks that are wonderful. Like 'Put Your Records On.' You'll find her in the R&B section at music stores.
Since I'm just getting started on this, here are a few more c-ds I've been enjoying. John Legend, I don't have his latest c-d. His music is great. I do plan on buying the his latest c-d soon.
Another recent purchase Gnarls Barkley, now that is funky c-d. I really dig that one. A hit song from that c-d is 'Crazy.' It's very good dance music.
I'll also be having input from our internet provider, Claire Aiello on music picks. She recently bought Keith Urban's latest c-d. I listened to it. He's done it again, put out another great c-d.
This little column will not be used for negative reviews, only positive. So if you have any great picks out there let me know and I'll check them out. I'm pretty flexible on musical genres.

Merry Christmas

It's that time of the year. Time to get the house decorated for Christmas. Yesterday, my husband and I put BIG colored Christmas lights on our house.
We didn't realize how bright it was until we came down the street last night. The movie Christmas Vacation comes to mind when I see the lights. Of course we are not that talented in stringing lights, but it is bright. We figure everyone is like, what is that, because we do not have much experience in hanging lights. I think it's cute though.
Inside the tree is decorated, but I don't have a tree topper yet...I keep forgetting to pick one up at the store.
I wrapped a bunch of presents last night. I've been buying gifts since September. This is a first for me...but guess what? I'm still not finished shopping....
Have a safe and joyous time getting ready for Christmas.

Fatal Bus Crash

The day started off as normal for most of us. Photojournalist Dion Hose and I had been assigned to the Madison County Commission meeting. Soon after arriving I got a phone call. The station told us to go to the hospital, there has been a bus accident.
Dion and I ran down the Madison County Courthouse stairs to the car. We made it to Huntsville hospital before any of the ambulances arrived with patients from the bus crash. At the time, I still didn't know what kind of bus, how many passengers or any details.
Then I found out it was a bus filled with Lee High School students. My heart dropped. I almost cried. I felt so much pain for the students and their families.
The bus carrying students from the high school to the Huntsville Center for Technology crashed with another car and plunged of an I-565 overpass and landed near Church Street in downtown Huntsville.
Eventually, the first ambulances started arriving to the hospital. It was very chaotic. People continued to travel down Madison Street in front of the emergency room. I just wanted people to stop turning down the road. I thought to myself, don't you people know there has been a bus accident and people need medical help right now. So in my liveshots, I asked that people take alternate routes-just stay away from the area overall. Huntsville Police were doing all they could to keep the traffic stopped so ambulances could get to the hospital.
One after another ambulances arrived with patients. The paramedics dropped off students and turned around to go get more. On the air we told parents to go to Huntsville Hospital's cafeteria where they had set up a place for parents to find out about their children. Seeing parents arrive to the hospital was tough. You could just see the fear in their faces as they ran into the hospital.
Once on the inside you could hear screams from parents when they found out the condition of their child-some would never get to speak to their children again. I wanted to cry with them.
The ambulances eventually stopped coming and all the passengers were being treated.
We talked with survivors who didn't have a scratch from the accident. It was a relief to hear their stories, but there were many more sad stories.
Today, we talked with more survivors. I told the girls we interviewed today Morgan Harkey and Patrice Gopher we were very worried about them and glad to see them in such good spirits.
Some of you may wonder how we (journalists, photographers, emergency workers, etc.) keep it together in times like these-I will tell you it is very hard. Some people have asked me since Monday if I was about to cry on the air. Yes, at times I did get a little choked up. I must say though that I am human just like you. I just hope and pray the rest of the surviving passengers in the hospital will pull through and all involved will find peace in the aftermath of this disaster.

Happy Birthday!!

Today is my baby sis's birthday. Happy 18th Miss Meredith Caitlin. We are ten and a half years apart. I remember it like it was yesterday when she was born. My Nana came running into the room and said it was a boy-I started crying- I wanted a sister. Luckily, my Nana was being mean, and I ended up getting my little sis. After all, I did pray in my playhouse for a little sister.
It's been great watching her grow up the last 18 years. Caitlin is my best friend. I have a funny picture of us I'll be posting soon of one fine day of my babysitting days.
Caitlin, I guess you are an adult now....I don't think so you're still my baby sis!! Love you and happy 18th Birthday.

Just Another Day On The Funny Farm!

I've writtten several posts on animals. Well, today my friends I bring you more PIGS-Oink.
I don't know how this always happens to me. Call me lucky I guess. There were about 4 pigs at this place in Morgan County. We pulled the car up close to the fence so I could take a picture. Then they started moving towards the car. So I was able to get a nice shot of the piggys. Aren't they cute. OINK.

Remembering the Tornado of 1989

This is a picture of weather moving towards the Tennessee Valley today in other parts of the country. That picture is just a reminder.
Many of us North Alabamians remember exactly where we were during the tornado of 1989.
I grew up in Decatur so I remember that day vividly. I was in the 6th grade at Brookhaven Middle School. That afternoon after school my mom Sonja, sissy Caitlin, who was only a baby, and neighbor Brooke Eubanks Gillette got in the hall of our home with pillows.
My dad Mark Moody, a real estate agent, continued to work that day. So I remember being very worried about him making it home. Thankfully, he did make it home. We didn't have any damage that I remember at our home.
I do remember some school friends saying they had some damage at their homes.
Every year around this time or times when there is bad weather I e-mail Brooke and remind her of that day.
Today, we have a severe weather threat. So we'll be out there bringing you live pictures and reports from the field. A scary time for some, but I enjoy being out in the elements covering weather...more so a hurricane than a tornado. Tornados are unpredictable.
So today take a moment and remember those 22 people who died in the tornado of 1989, and pray that everyone stays safe today.

Dead Cows

There's only one way to describe my job-interesting and exciting. One day I'm covering the election, to a man escaping from a holding facility, to a man being charged with the murder of his wife and then today's story-27 dead cows in Dekalb County.
27 dead cows died Friday morning, they were electrocuted. A power line snapped and fell to the ground and killed 27 cows. It was very sad looking at the poor animals piled on top of each other. Bless their hearts.
The farmer believes one was electrocuted and the rest ran over cause they were curious. Then the current of the electricity hit them all. Most of the cows were Black Angus. The farmer is out more than $30,000.
The electrical company responsible for the power line is reimbursing the farmer.
This story is one of the strangest I've seen so far.

Picture Lillian

This is a picture of Lillian Jo and her mommy and daddy, Eric and Jodi. Lillian is my new neice. Isn't she beautiful.

Oh, and what a cute little pumpkin costume for Halloween.

I hope to be posting more these days. My husband and I gave ourselves a digital camera for our anniversary, October 15th. So, now I'll have pictures to post. No, we did not go anywhere for our anniversary. So, no hurricanes or other problems. Maybe next year...
