The Penny Project

Just One Penny Can Feed the Homeless

This summer when I became a penny pincher and started clipping coupons I began shopping on Wednesdays at Publix because of the "Mystery Item".
In order to get the "Mystery Item" you have to have the coupon from Wednesday's newspaper. It only cost one penny, but you have to spend $10 to get the deal.
I knew if I did my grocery shopping on Wednesdays I would automatically be spending more than ten bucks. So then I would get the "Mystery Item."
As I gathered these items it got me thinking, I need to be donating this food to a soup kitchen.
So Thanksgiving rolled around and that's what I did. I gathered up several mystery items and Buy One Get One Free items and Baby Cole and I headed to the Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen on North Memorial Parkway.
My wheels kept spinning. I decided to pitch this idea to my Sunday school class a couple of weeks ago. I thought if they would do the same thing I had been doing, we could really help feed the homeless. Then this past Sunday "The Penny Project" took off.
Today, I dropped off a whole basket of food. What a blessing it is to see smiles on everyone's faces when you are able give back.
You can do this in your community too! Just pick up the penny item or "Mystery Item" and take it to a soup kitchen. Let's help feed the homeless for a penny.
We can feed the homeless for just a penny!
